The Mouthpiece (40)
Edition 40, March 2007
Looking Back
Malcolm started February’s series of concerts (2nd.) with French music for organ by Langlais and Messiaen. Another organ recital followed on the 9th. with music by Haydn, Stanford, Boelly, Dupre & Bach, played by David Butler. Pianist Elizabeth French made her debut at St. Mary’s on the 16th. with a wonderful programme that included music by William Matthias, Grieg, Chopin and Mendelssohn. Make sure you are here for her return visit on May 31st.
I returned on the 23rd. with another Euphonium recital with Malcolm. We included music by Andre Gedalge, Tchaikovsky, Frank Bridge, and the brass and wind band composer Dennis Wright. By popular request, I also included the 1912 Cavalry Tuba in the concert. We have now performed 29 recitals together, playing 156 pieces of music by 111 different composers from 15 countries. 63 of those pieces were premieres!
Concerts in March
Organ music also starts the March series of concerts (1st.) with a programme by Andrew West from Pinner. He will include the Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor in his programme.
There is a slight change to the concert on the 8th. This will now be a single event, featuring Brian Neal at the piano with his ever popular choice of light music. Steven Christmas (guitar) and Stephen Willis (baritone) join forces on the 15th. and Elaine Stowell joins Malcolm once again on Saturday 22nd. for music and poetry for Holy Week.
March ends (29th.) with another fine classical pianist, Catherine Leonard.
