Ulster
Youth Jazz Orchestra
Ulster
Youth Jazz Orchestra made a very welcome return to St. Mary's
on Sunday the 16th of July 06. Winners of the National Jazz
Festival of Music for Youth in 2004, and crowned BBC Band of the
Year in 2002, the Ulster
Youth Jazz Orchestra, under Musical Director Ken Jordan, first
played at Saint Mary’s last year and visited us
this year as part of their annual summer UK tour. Playing a repertoire
of modern Jazz and old Jazz Standards such as
'That's why the lady is a tramp' and 'Summertime' the group
was very well received making best use of St. Mary's wonderful
acoustic. The rhythm section's playing was particularly tight
balanced well with some amazing solos by the frontline instrumentalists.
An enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
