A Profile of The Contemporary Indian Dance Company
Thaal is a fast growing Contemporary Indian Dance Company. We love to dance and we love to
share dance. We like to create. Our inspiration comes from the real world that we live in: the
culture, the society and the people. Our choreography is our own creation and not a copy
moves seen in films and on TV. We teach the most popular dance styles: Bollywood, Classic
Bollywood, Bhangra and a new styles created by Thaal: Bhangra-Fusion. The classic dance
styles such as - Kathak is also taught by Thaal.
Our motto is: Have Fun, Learn to Dance and Keep Fit.
Thaal is a professional Dance Company. Our work and experiences focus on community
classes, workshops ( in general but particularly in schools ) and the company troupes. Our
focus does not end with dance; we actively present our students and dancers on the world
stage – to broaden their horizons and experiences.
The Company Troupe has danced at the Chiswick House Festival, The Bloomsbury Theatre,
Winchester May Festival, Hammersmith Palais, BBC’s Big Dance, The T5 Charity Ball…..
Our students, from our community classes in Southall, Ealing, Slough and Hounslow have
performed at, for example, The Slough Children’s Fund event, BBC’s Big Dance, Dance Around
The World Festival and at the company’s Tasters / Term Launch events.
There are further events in 2007/8. In March our students performed at Sadler’s Wells Theatre
as part of the Connect Festivals Youth Dance project: Roar! Students from the Heathland High
School, Hounslow and The Green School, Isleworth, showcased a number of routines. This was
following an eight - week in Indian Dance at their school. They performed alongside other youth
dance groups from differing styles.
Dancing is great for both body and mind. It is a good way of releasing tension and keeping
active in our busy modern lives. We encourage everyone, from all communities to dance. The
atmosphere is friendly with professional instruction. This is the case with our regular community
classes, as well as with our corporate workshops. Our inclusive approach means that we have a
fun and interactive experience for all our students.
Thaal is always about being refreshing and new. We do not move in isolation. We respect our
history, heritage and culture. But we never forget where we are, what we are and where we are
going.
Our team is inspired by progress, having an open mind and heart and evolving as people in the
UK. We work in partnerships, with our dancers, clients and associates.
