Brockway Memorial Lecture: 8/11/06
The Heart of the festival and celebrating its inspiration – this year's speaker was be Craig Murray, ex-ambassador and vocal critic of the Government's foreign policy. Plus Walter Wolfgang who was famously removed from the Labour Party's Conference.
Information on the speakers:
Craig Murray (Writer and broadcaster)
As Britain's outspoken Ambassador to the Central
Asian Republic of Uzbekistan, Craig Murray helped
expose vicious human rights abuses by the
US-funded regime of Islam Karimov. He is now
a prominent critic of Western policy in the region.
Walter Julius Wolfgang (born June, 1923) is a German-born British socialist and peace activist. He is currently Vice President of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), Vice Chair of Labour CND and a supporter of the Stop the War Coalition. He became an unlikely hero after cameras recorded him being forcibly ejected from the annual Labour Party Conference in Brighton on September 28, 2005 during a speech on the Iraq War, in an incident that provoked much media comment and embarrassed the Labour leadership. In August 2006 Wolfgang succeeded in his bid to become a member of Labour's National Executive Committee.
