Edition 32, July 2007

Welcome to the 32nd.  edition of the monthly newsletter for the Saturday lunchtime concerts.

Looking Back

The first Saturday concert in June (2nd.) featured Julia Booker (soprano) and Robin Howles (tenor) with Antonia King at the piano. The following week (9th.) featured music for organ with the visit of Dr. Relf Clark from Oxford.

The 16th. saw the return of Peter Vaughan at the piano, with a selection of popular melodies, plus his usual visit to the organ seat, before our next double concert on Saturday, June 23rd.

This featured young singers and pianists from Berkhamsted, coached by our very own Catherine Orton. Young pianists included Suzi Walker, Chloe Goulding, Matt Rees and Jamie Humberstone. Performing in the 2nd. half (with Malcolm at the piano) was Dermot Kirk and Heather Graves.

The last concert of the month (30th.) featured David Darby (piano) and Thea Cramp (flute) in an outstanding programme of classical works for the instrument by Schubert & Doppler.

Concerts in July

There is a change to the concert diary entry for the first Saturday in this month. Ian Stewart replaces Allison Horriben with a programme of music for organ which includes Moonlight Serenade, Over the Rainbow, To A Wild Rose and the Funeral March of a Marionette. The following week (14th.) is another double concert with music for organ given by Malcolm in the first half, and light jazz piano by Brian Neal in the 2nd. Brian will be featuring the music of Cole Porter.

On the 21st. we have Rebecca Bell (soprano) and Anthea Fry (piano) and then another slight change to the published programme, Malcolm and Brian Neal return once more for another double concert.
