The Mouthpiece (24)
November 2006: Welcome to the 24th. edition of the monthly newsletter for the Saturday lunchtime concerts.
Looking Back
October started (7th.) with concert No. 901, featuring the Forest Voices Chamber Choir from Ascot.
Ian May returned on the 14th. as musical director of the Cameo Consort in a delightful programme of music for piano, voice, violin, cello & flute.
The 21st. featured light jazz with the ever popular Brian Neal trio, this time featuring special guest Matt Ross at the piano. It was a great joy for me to be able to sit-in with this fine group and we look forward to their return visit in February next year.
As we go to press, we look forward very much to the programme of music from Shola Hector (mezzo soprano) in a song recital, with Keith Bosley at the piano.
Concerts in November
We have the welcome return of Henry Macey at the organ of St. Mary’s on November 4th. The programme will include the Toccata in F by Bach and the famous Dambusters March by Eric Coates.
The 11th. features music and prose for Remembrance day, featuring Elaine & Malcolm Stowell and the following Saturday (18th.) sees the return of my low brass trio, Capriccioso Brass.
We have managed to put together one of our most adventurous programmes so far, which will feature music by Handel and John Dowland, plus a brand new arrangement (premiere) made especially for us by Terry Treherne.
Titled Joshua, David and John, it is a fantasia on the well known negro spirituals ‘Joshua Fought the Battle of Jericho’, ‘Little David Play on Your Harp’, and ‘Just Like John’. All skilfully woven together by Terry.
We finish with a fun version of the famous Bugler’s Holiday by Leroy Anderson!
The final concert on the 25th. features Malcolm at the organ and the programme will include music by Langlais and Boellmann.
