Newsletter from the Churchwardens: July 2006:

The last few months have been a busy time at St Mary’s, and summer is looking to be busier still, with a number of special events in addition to our regular services and free Saturday lunchtime concerts.

New Priest-in-Charge of the Parish
In September, we will be welcoming Revd Andrew Allen as our new Priest-in-Charge of the Parish. Andrew has been Rector of Brixham in Devon for the past fourteen years, although he and his wife Heather have local roots in Reading. His licensing service will be held on Monday 11th September at 7.30pm in St Mary’s, and his first service in St Mary’s will be on Sunday 17th September. All are welcome at these services.

New Development Co-ordinator
At the beginning of July we welcomed Guy Bunce as new Development Co-ordinator for our ASPIRE project. Guy is already a familiar face at St Mary’s as one of the regular performers at Saturday lunchtime concerts, and will be working part-time for us for the next year. His emphasis will be on maximising the use of our building – if you would like to speak to Guy, he can be contacted on 01753 535465, aspire@guybunce.co.uk.

Ways to help St Mary’s
One of the aims of the ASPIRE project is eventually to make the church building self-financing, but of course the core of our work is to be a church! To do this takes time, energy, effort and money. We are in the process of forming small Action Groups to take on specific areas of responsibility – currently buildings, fundraising, children/ young people and communication; if you have expertise in any of these areas, please consider ways in which you can help us. We also appreciate donations, large or small; please remember to fill in a Gift Aid form if you are a taxpayer.

We would like to thank you for your continued interest in St Mary’s. Our position as Slough’s town-centre church is a big asset, but it is also a challenge. The help and support of our wider community as we continue our work is invaluable to us.
