Choir

Saint Mary's is proud of its choral tradition. Music plays an important part in our Sunday worship. During the sung Eucharist, the choir normally sings a mass setting and an anthem. At Choral Evensong, it sings an anthem and leads the congregation in the singing of the canticles and psalms.

The choir rehearses on the first and third Sundays of the month from 17.30-18.15 in the church. It is directed by our organist, Malcolm Stowell. Malcolm has been playing the organ at Saint Mary's for nineteen years and has a particular liking for French Romantic Organ music. He is artistic director of our lunchtime concert series and also chairs the Windsor and District Organists' Association.

The Norman and Beard Organ

Built in 1912 by Norman and Beard, the organ was designed by Sir Walter Parratt, then organist at Saint George's Chapel Windsor. A three manual instrument, it has 37 speaking stops and nine couplers with over 2,400 pipes. Pitched to French diapason, it is a splendid example of an English Romantic organ. Outside its liturgical use, it lends itself well to solo performances and concert accompaniment.
